Coaches Expectations

1. Player Development & Safety

Prioritize skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Ensure all players receive equal opportunities to learn and participate.
Follow all safety protocols, including proper equipment use and heat/weather guidelines.

2. Coaching Conduct & Leadership

Lead by example with professionalism, respect, and enthusiasm.
Communicate clearly with players, parents, and assistant coaches.
Promote a positive and inclusive team culture.
Uphold league rules and ensure fair play.

3. Practice & Game Management

Plan organized and effective practices that focus on skill-building.
Arrive early and be prepared for all practices and games.
Assign roles and responsibilities to assistant coaches.
Ensure all players get game time in accordance with league policies.

4. Communication & Parent Engagement

Keep open lines of communication with parents about schedules, expectations, and player progress.
Address concerns in a professional and constructive manner.
Foster a supportive and encouraging environment for both players and parents.

5. Administrative Responsibilities

Submit lineups, rosters, and any required paperwork on time.
Adhere to all league policies and reporting procedures.
Ensure all equipment is accounted for and properly maintained.

TIME EXPECTATIONS

PRACTICES

Each team will have a weekday and a weekend practice time where the weekday practice times will discontinue once the season starts. The Head Coach will schedule his/her team's practice times with the General Manager. More about Practices here.

GAMES

All leagues with two exception will play 7 weeks of 2 games per week for the regular season and then participate in the post-season tournament. Teeball will play 10 total games with no post-season games. (Senior Baseball will play 6 weeks of two games per week)

Our Head Coaches dedicate a lot of time, energy and emotion and they are so gratefully appreciated. It is understood that sometimes "life" can interfere and cause the Head Coach a scheduling conflict from time to time. If the Head Coach can't attend on the rare occasion it is acceptable and expected for the Official Assistant Coach to fill in.

COACHING EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Mostly, the Head Coach at Lyndon Rec is administrative so knowledge of the sport is not the most important skill for the rec league Head Coach. The ability to be fair and to communicate is really more important. It is encouraged and is actually expected that the Head Coach get as many parents to help as possible with the coaching/administrative duties.
